Student Make Up Tips

Hi, I’m Mia and I’m a past SIBT student. I studied at SIBT and now I’m studying at Macquarie Uni. It’s my dream to become a TV presenter but in my spare time I am a make up artist and I just love make up and fashion. Below are my make up tips for students. Trust me, I know this, because I’ve made mistakes too, many times!

FOUNDATION

Mia1The first makeup mistake is wearing the wrong foundation shade. As you can see, on the left side of my face, the foundation is way too dark for my skin.

The one on my right isn’t too bright, just because compares to the darker foundation of the other side of my face, it looks a bit too light in photo. However, even your foundation is slightly lighter than your skin, don’t worry because we can always darken it by adding bronzer and contouring powder to it.

POWDER

Because I have a very oily skin, powder has always been a must for me. I use powder just set my foundation in place and keep it last all day. There is one thing that I have done many many times before and have seen many girls have done as well is using a foundation powder over foundation. Foundation powder is meant to be worn on its own, not over another foundation, otherwise it will make your skin look very thick and cakey, unless you want an extra full coverage.

Mia2On the left side of my face, I’m using the Bobbi Brown Foundation Powder. As you can see, the powder makes my skin look very heavy.

On the right side of my face, I’m using my Chanel Finishing Powder. This loose powder doesn’t only help me set my base in place but also brightens up my skin and gives it that flawless healthy looking finish.

EYESHADOW

A brown smokey eye is a great option if you want a dramatic look, without being too dark. Adding a pop of gold really open up and brightens up the eye and adds a bit of light to make the eye really stand out.

When it comes to eye shadow, it is important to take your time blending, because you don’t want to end up looking like a panda bear or you’ve been bruised. So be patient and take your time!

I highly suggest investing your money in good eye brushes. I use a flat top brush, a point brush, a fluffy brush and a blending brush.

EYELINER

Mia5If there is one thing completely changes my eyes, it is eyeliner. I don’t know whether you have noticed this, but Asian girls love big eyes. The thicker the line you draw, the bigger your eye will look. However, as you can see on my left eye, I have dragged the line way too far that it makes my eye look even smaller.

Another tip is that when you use pencil eyeliner, always make sure that the top is sharpened so that it allows you to achieve that accurate winged line.

EYELASHES

Mia7And of course, lashes! Before applying mascara or false lashes, don’t forget to curl your lashes. This step will help to open up your eyes and to combine your real lases with the false lashes you are going to apply.

Using a tweezer will help you place the lashes more precisely.

EYEBROWS

Mia8I love brows! The problem is I wasn’t lucky enough to be born with thick full eyebrow.  So eyebrow pencils have always been my best friend!

Here I’m using The Face Shop eyebrow pencil to fill in my eyebrow and Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara to set my eyebrows in place. The mascara is not completely necessary but I guarantee the end result will be so beautiful! (Brush upward for strong, sculpted eyebrows)

CONTOURING

I love contouring my face! It gives me cheekbones and a V-line chin instantly without having to do plastic surgery or photoshop my photo! Always start off with less than you need and apply more because it’s easier to add more than it is to take it off. Over contouring will make your face appear heavy and cakey.

BLUSH

Bobbi Brow Apricot has always been my go to blush since it gives me justMia13 enough color to my skin but also very neutral and not over the top on the cheek.

When it comes to blush, where you place it is just as important as what color you choose. The lower you apply your blush, the chubbier your face will look.

HIGLIGHTING

I love the Inglot Highlighter. When I’m not doing something too bronzy, this highlighter is perfect; because it is so vanilla, it really compliments my skin.

Don’t forget less is more. Too much highlight will make your face look oily.

LIPSTICK

WMia17hen the weather gets colder, I tend to move away from nude or dark lip colors and into brighter tones, and the YSL Rouge Pur Couture 01 is perfect for that.

Whenever I do a full bold lip, I like my lips to look as sharp and clean as possible. So after applying the lipstick, I always go back with a sharp flat top brush with a tiny bit of liquid foundation to clean out the excess.

Now if you want your lips to look fuller, this is a tip for you. Take any of your dark shade powders and a small point brush, go back in and place it right underneath your lower lip. This will contour your lips, gives it gradient to make it pop out even more.

Mia18Unlike the red lipstick I’ve used on my right face, as you can see in this photo, this nude lipstick is way to light for my skin. It dries out my lips and just makes them look very fake and flakey.

TA-DAH!
